Information

Neurodyn Aussie Sport is a device for applying electrical current through electrodes in direct contact with the patient. It is a transcutaneous neuromuscular stimulator that uses microcomputer technology, operated via a touch keyboard. All information regarding the parameters chosen by the therapist will be displayed on an alphanumeric liquid crystal display. The stimulator produces Aussie Current (also called Australian Current), a new generation of electrical current for stimulation with advantages over traditional stimulation methods (Russian, Interferential, TENS, and FES). This technique is non-invasive, non-addictive, and has no undesirable side effects. The Aussie Current offers two frequency options: 1 kHz and 4 kHz, allowing selection according to the therapeutic objective. 1 kHz is used for muscle strengthening/toning, while 4 kHz is used for lymphatic drainage and analgesia. Regarding Bursts, the Aussie current features short-duration bursts (2 milliseconds for 1 kHz current and 4 milliseconds for 4 kHz current), with a variable frequency of 1 to 120 Hz and intensity of 1 to 180 mA. The sensation level is controlled by adjusting the device’s parameters (controls). The Neurodyn Aussie Sport produces a stimulus whose waveform is much more comfortable than traditional stimulation forms. Therefore, it is more likely that this stimulus will be much more pleasant for most patients. In addition to muscle strengthening, the current also provides an analgesic effect. As previously mentioned, due to the Aussie current being more comfortable than most traditional electrical stimuli (Russian, Interferential, TENS, and FES), sensory or motor stimulation can be achieved with minimal pain.

Indications

  • Muscle strengthening
  • Edema drainage
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Control and reduction of inflammatory conditions
  • Acute and chronic pain management
  • Muscle function recovery
  • Pre- and post-operative treatments

Differentials and Benefits

  • Touch-keyboard programming provides digitized information and data reliability.
  • Front LCD screen allows easy viewing and handling, consuming less energy and offering a modern design.
  • Four independent output channels, allowing simultaneous or separate stimulation of up to four different areas during a treatment session.
  • Adjustable timer from 1 to 60 minutes, offering convenience for professionals without the need to manually track therapy duration.
  • Pre-programmed treatment protocols to assist professionals in therapies.
  • Non-invasive therapeutic effect, non-addictive, and no side effects, allowing patients to continue their daily routines.

Stimulation Options and Modes

  • Aussie Current Sensory Stimulation (Maximum Comfort)
    • Uses sine-wave current at 4 kHz (4,000 Hz) frequency and Bursts modulation with a 4 ms duration.
    • Produces less torque than motor stimulation and can be used for pain relief and tissue injury discomfort.
    • Based on the Gate Control Theory (Melzack & Wall, 1965) and endogenous opioid release.
  • Aussie Current Motor Stimulation (Maximum Torque)
    • Uses sine-wave current at 1 kHz (1,000 Hz) frequency and Bursts modulation with a 2 ms duration.
    • Frequency range 40-50 Hz recommended for stronger contractions.
    • Higher frequencies (>50 Hz) produce more torque but may cause fatigue.
    • Lower frequencies (10-20 Hz) are recommended for conditions such as post-stroke shoulder subluxation prevention.

Stimulation Modes

  • Continuous Mode: Constant and continuous stimulation.
  • Synchronized Mode: Four channels work simultaneously in synchronization.
  • Reciprocal Mode: Channels 1 & 3 alternate with Channels 2 & 4.
  • Pre-programmed Protocols Available: Simply select the program and adjust the intensity.

Pre-Programmed Treatment Protocols

  1. Athletic Muscle Strengthening
  2. Increased Muscle Torque
  3. Motor Re-education
  4. Strengthening in Disuse Atrophy
  5. Post-Stroke Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
  6. Edema Reduction
  7. Acute Pain Management (Gate Control Theory)
  8. Chronic Pain Management (Endorphin Release)
  9. Post-Operative Functional Recovery (Initial Phase)
  10. Post-Operative Functional Recovery (Advanced Phase)

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Aussie Current? Aussie Current (Australian Current) is an alternating therapeutic electrical current in the kHz range, similar to Interferential and Russian currents. It can be used for muscle relaxation and strengthening. 2. Does the device come with accessories? Yes, all necessary accessories are included. 3. Can self-adhesive electrodes be used? Yes, as long as the manufacturer’s instructions are followed. 4. What are the main differences between Aussie and Russian Currents? Both are medium-frequency alternating currents, but Aussie Current has two carrier frequencies (1 kHz & 4 kHz) and shorter pulse duration (2 ms & 4 ms). Research suggests that Aussie Current reduces muscle fatigue and discomfort, making therapy more comfortable and effective. 5. Can Aussie Current be used for muscle recovery and pain modulation? Yes, it can help in pain management, muscle recovery, and lymphatic stimulation by adjusting carrier frequency and pulse duration accordingly. 6. Which currents does the device support? Only Aussie Current. Note: Use only under the guidance of a specialized professional.
